Things You Should Know Before You Go to China for the Very First Time

June 22, 2018

Travelling to China can be an absolutely incredible experience. Nothing you have ever seen before will quite compare to it, and it’s full of things to see and do. If you want to take the trip for the very first time however, then there are one or two things that you need to know.

People There Speak Very Little English

When you travel to China, you need to try your best to learn the language. You also need to be prepared to ask for directions or even an item on the menu in Chinese as well. You really don’t need to be fluent in Mandarin if you want to make your way around China, because you can get a long way with body language and even Google translate as well.

The Country is Very Safe

Even though you might not know the language, you will probably never feel unsafe in China. The country has some of the lowest crime rates around. This is even the case against tourist as well. If you do happen to witness a crime when on your trip, there is a high chance that it will only be a pickpocketing incident in a very busy city, but even that can be avoided if you make the effort to try and keep your items covered up as much as possible.

The Distance Between Places is Huge

Travelling to China will easily be one of the most unforgettable experiences in your life. One thing that you need to take note of however is that the distance between the towns or even cities can be quite large. A trip from Chengdu to Siping for example can take up to 45 hours via train, and this is the last thing that you need when you are trying to fit a lot into each day. It’s even worth looking up things like “how long does it take to walk the Great Wall of China?” As this will help you to prepare for the amount of time you have to allow for each activity that you have.

China’s Harsh Climate

China is known for overheating in the summer and then practically freezing over in the winter. The country can see temperatures of up to 50 degrees in July and even August. The northern side of the country can drop to minus temperatures with ease and the best time for you to travel is between Spring and Summer. It’s really important that you give yourself a good idea of what the weather is going to be like as well because this way you can pack accordingly and it also makes it way easier for you to find out whatever you need to know about any potential heatwaves or storms.

So there are so many things that you need to know about China before you travel, but by being clued up, you can be sure to have the best time and you can also be sure to meet some of the best people as well.
