The 3 Elements Of A Cozy Home

April 4, 2018

Every home should feel cozy. Many aspects of a household might depend on the owner’s specific tastes and preferences, but coziness should be a universal goal for the perfect family home. Even if you live in a huge house, that doesn’t mean it can’t still feel cozy and homely. It’s just about designing the place in the right way. Well, design is one aspect of coziness. Let’s talk about the three elements of a cozy home that you need to consider.

Spaciousness is the first element of a cozy household. You can’t feel comfortable and relaxed in your own home if you feel cramped. Even if you live in a small cottage or a tiny flat because you like small spaces, everybody wants to be able to move around their own home freely. This is a bit of a stereotypical thing to say, but a cluttered house leads to a cluttered mind. That’s why you should throw out any old possessions that are just taking up space in your home. Open up some space so that you’ll be able to breathe a little more easily. You could even convert the garage into a spare room and move some furnishings or even a TV in there so that you have a new “chill out” zone and the rest of the house feels more spacious.

When you think of coziness, you think of warmth. It was probably the first word that came to mind, in fact. Again, we’re talking about more than the temperature of your thermostat here - different people will have different preferences when it comes to the warmth of their house. That being said, everybody wants their home to feel warm to some extent. It’s about feeling safe and insulated in your own abode. Speaking of insulation, you might want to insulate your walls and get thicker glazing for your windows; that’ll keep your household warmer without you having to worry about turning up the heating and increasing your energy bill. And if people in the house are always complaining about the water being too cold then you might want to check out the best propane tankless water heater out there. It’s important that you and your family can rely on warm showers after a long day at work or school. Warmth plays such a crucial role when it comes to feeling comfortable in your home.

Whilst we’ve already talked about spaciousness, and that does affect the design of your home, we’ve not talked about the overall aesthetic of your humble abode. After all, the interior of your house needs some personality - an empty space isn’t much of a home. That’s why design is the third and final element of a cozy home. The aesthetic of your household has a huge impact on the way you feel. Surroundings affect our mood. Your house already has a spacious and minimalistic design if you got rid of your old junk and converted some of the existing space, but minimalism is about colors and patterns too.

For example, white is a very powerful color that you should use throughout your design; it reflects light and brightens rooms. It might seem like a rather plain and dull color, but that’s why you need to use statement pieces to give rooms some life and character. Make sure every room has a focal point. Perhaps you could hang up a particularly vibrant and colorful canvas painting on the living room wall, for example. You could even get a chandelier for the dining room. Good interior design is simplistic yet bold. You want to keep your home’s design spacious and airy, but it’s important that you use a few well-placed aesthetic pieces to breathe life into the space you do use. Remember, an appealing interior design is an important part of creating a home that feels cozy.
