What are the most important rooms in your house? Your bedroom is up there of course, and the living room. But for a lot of people, the real center of their home is the kitchen. It's the place where people stand around and chat, where family meals are made, a lot of the time it's where you eat as well. So why, if your kitchen is so important to your house, do so many people end up neglecting it when it comes to the interior design of their home? After all, if you're going to spend huge amounts of your time there, shouldn't your kitchen be the kind of place you want to be? With that in mind, here are some ways to turn your kitchen into the heart of your home.

Let there be light
Light is the most important part of interior design, and yet it can often be one of the most neglected parts of it as well. In a kitchen, you need as much light as possible. The energy levels in a kitchen should always be incredibly high. Unlike your bedroom where soft mood lighting is king, you need as much natural light as possible in your kitchen. This means that having lots of dark fronted cabinets is going to make the whole place feel incredibly dingy. Don't be afraid to embrace white as a color for your kitchen as a way to reflect as much light as you can.
On an island
There simply is no better addition to a kitchen than an island. It not only offers you added counter space but it provides a wonderful area for you to cook, eat, and just hang around and talk to friends and family. Not only that but there's almost always the possibility for a great deal of storage inside it. Of course, it does raise a few questions, such as whether or not you want to have any appliances in it or how to pick the right pendant for your kitchen island. But those kinds of things almost always come down to personal preference anyway!
Keep things simple
It's tempting to decorate your home as lavishly as possible to bring life into it, and for some rooms that work really well. However, if your kitchen is overly cluttered, then it's just going to end up looking dirty and disorganized. Keep things as simple and minimalist as possible when appointing your kitchen, you'll find that it helps the features of the room pop that much more. Not only that but it makes it a lot easier to keep your kitchen clean if you're not constantly working around a lot of clutter.
Now, you might not think of your kitchen as the most important room in your house, but it's important to take the time to think about how much time you really spend in it. It's one of the most functional rooms in your house, to be sure, but that doesn't mean that it can't benefit from a little extra style as well!
